DRAWINGS BY JAMES WARD (1769-1859)
18th November - 11th December 2009
Our exhibition marks the 150th anniversary of the artist’s death. The show contains seventy drawings and watercolour sketches of everyday scenes and studies from nature. These drawings were once among James Ward’s portfolios of working sketches which he used to create his often complex landscapes, historical compositions and animal subjects. Our exhibition also includes four small oils on panel, each demonstrating Ward’s abilities as a colourist and skilled handler of oil paint.
The online catalogue includes just a sample of the works in the exhibition. A full, illustrated catalogue is available on request.
